Aˈzarychy ˈBattle of 1942

Battle of the partisans from the Red October Detachment and the detachments under A. F. Kavalienka, I. R. Zhuliega (see in the article Partisan Brigade 123, Akciabrski, 25th Anniversary of the BSSR), A. Ts. Mikhajlowski (see in the article Partisan Brigade 125, Kapatkievichy) against German Nazi invaders in Azarychy village (centre of Damanavichy Rajon, Paliessie Voblasc) during the Great Patriotic War on February 17, 1942.

An enemy garrison of 70 people was located in Azarychy, there were warehouses with bread which was intended to be sent to Germany. Having destroyed a garrison in Valosavichy village, partisans made their way to Azarychy. The Detachment under A. F. Kavalienka covered the road from Kabylshchyna to Azarychy, and a platoon of the Red October Detachment covered the road from Azarychy to Valosavichy. At 7 a.m., the detachments quietly occupied the western part of Azarychy, the strike groups attacked the enemy’s guard room.

As a result of a 3‑hour battle, the partisans defeated the garrison, killed about 40 soldiers and officers, captured 2 heavy machine guns and a light machine gun, 35 rifles, about 50,000 cartridges, and distributed 850 tons of grain to the population. There were no losses on the part of the partisans.

Hero of the Soviet Union F. I. Pawlowski controlled the operation.
