ˈLyubeshiv ˈBattle of 1943
Battle of the V. M. Molotov Partisan Brigade against German Nazi invaders in the urban settlement of Lyubeshiv, Volyn Oblast (Ukraine), on July 21, 1943, during the Great Patriotic War.
The partisans’ battle task was to prevent the Hitlerites from taking away agricultural products looted from local inhabitants, crushing the garrison, and replenishing the brigade’s supplies of ammunition and arms.
The battle was controlled by brigade commander M. I. Gerasimov. Setting up ambushes around Lyubeshiv, the S. G. Lazo and M. Ts. Shysh detachments silently slipped to the attack line, reconnaissance men neutralised sentries, the assault groups blocked Nazi soldiers in bunkers. The Partisans loaded 300 carts, but property and products that remained in eight warehouses were burned. The main forces of the brigade, under the rearguard covering (a platoon of partisans which faced the attack of the Hitlerites reinforcements and did not let the pursuers pass) retreated to their bases.
In the battle, the partisans destroyed about 25 Nazi soldiers and lost killed several of their comrades.
