Town, centre of Kirawsk Rajon, Magiliow Voblasc, on the Ala River. It is located 92 km southwest of Magiliow city, 164 km from Minsk, 25 km from the Biarezina railway station (on the Asipovichy — Zhlobin line); on the Babrujsk — Magiliow highway.
Former village of Starcy, since 1935, centre of Kirawsk Rajon, since 1939, it was renamed Kirava.
In 1934 in the place of former khutars (isolated farmsteads) near the village of Starcy, Kirawsk settlement was founded.
In 1955, Kirava village was included in the settlement of Kirawsk.
In 1959–2001, urban settlement.
In 1939, Kirawsk had 535 inhabitants.
Kirawsk was invaded on June 30, 1941. German Nazi invaders killed 5,526 civilians in the rajon and rajon centre.
The Anti-Fascist Group under Ts. S. Korzhaw, the Kirawsk Underground Rajon Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus and Kirawsk Underground Rajon Committee of the Leninist Young Communist League of Belarus; the Kirawsk Military Operation Group, the 9th Kirawsk Partisan Brigade, 5th Klichaw Partisan Brigade, 8th Ragachow Partisan Brigade, 61st Partisan Brigade; the 152nd Partisan Regiment, 208th J. V. Stalin Partisan Regiment, 277th Partisan Regiment, 425th Partisan Regiment, 810th Partisan Regiment; the 25th Partisan Detachment, 115th Partisan Detachment, 225th Partisan Detachment, 278th Partisan Detachment, 435th Partisan Detachment, 620th V. I. Chapaev Partisan Detachment, and 830th Partisan Detachment operated in the rajon; the Kirovets («Кировец»; lit. ‘inhabitant of Kirawsk’) underground newspaper, i.e. the body of the Kirawsk Underground Rajon Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus, was published.
In the Kirawsk area in June — July 1942 and May 1943, partisans fought hard battles against the Hitlerites (see Chafer).
Kirawsk was liberated on June 26, 1944, by the soldiers of the 413th Rifle Division (colonel I. V. Mulov) and the 95th Tank Brigade (colonel A. I. Kuznetsov) of the 3rd Army of the 1st Belarusian Front during the Babrujsk offensive of 1944.
In Kirawsk, there are:
