Kaˈmaryn
Urban settlement in Bragin Rajon, Gomiel Voblasc, hithe on the Dniapro River. It is located 52 km south of Bragin, 159 km from Gomiel, 404 km from Minsk, 9 km from the Jolcha railway station (on the Chernihiv — Ovruch line); connected to Bragin by a highway.
Until 1959, village.
In 1926–1962, centre of Kamaryn Rajon.
In 1939, Kamaryn had 1,721 inhabitants.
Kamaryn was invaded on August 28, 1941. 1,064 people, including 2 war prisoners, died in the town and rajon at the hands of German Nazi invaders. In September — October 1941, the Hitlerites executed 89 Jews in Kamaryn.
The Kamaryn Underground Rajon Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus, the K. E. Voroshilov Partisan Detachment and G. I. Kotovskij Partisan Detachment (both from Paliessie Voblasc) operated in the rajon.
Kamaryn was liberated on September 23, 1943, by the troops of the 13th Army (lieutenant general N. P. Pukhov) of the Central Front (2nd drafting) during the Chernihiv-Prypiac operation of 1943. The 360th Rifle Regiment (Lt.Col. M. I. Stashak) of the 74th Rifle Division (major general A. A. Kazarian) directly participated in the liberation of the urban settlement, with the participation of subunits of the 8th Rifle Division (colonel P. M. Gudź) of the 15th Rifle Corps (major general I. I. Liudnikov). They were first in that area to reach the Dniapro and on the night of September 22, 1943, they forced it in crossing using substitutes and fishing boats, broke through the enemy’s defence and seized a bridgehead on the right bank of the river. After river crossing, the units attacked the Hitlerites and seized a number of settlements, surrounded and destroyed the Nazi garrison in Kamaryn.
Kamaryn is the first rajon centre of Belarus liberated by Soviet troops during the Great Patriotic War. More than 20 soldiers and officers who distinguished themselves during the forcing in crossing of the Dniapro in the Kamaryn area were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.

mass grave of Soviet soldiers who died during the forcing in crossing the Dniapro and the liberation of Kamaryn and neighbouring villages, and partisans; a monument was raised on the grave;
the Victory Park memorial complex;
monument in honour of the liberating soldiers.
