Dniaˈpro-Bug Ofˈfensive of 1943
It was conducted by the V. M. Molotov Partisan Brigade of Pinsk Voblasc to decommission sluices, dams, and spillways of the Dniapro-Bug Canal and disrupting the enemy’s transportation during the Great Patriotic War. It was elaborated by the Belarusian Headquarters of the Partisan Movement at the end of 1942.
In February — March 1943, sabotage groups of the S. G. Lazo, M. I. Kutuzov, A. V. Suvorov detachments decommissioned the Owzichy, Liahavichy, Ragadoshchy canals, and in May, the “Perarub” and Radovychi sluices in the Bielaazierski Canal.
At the beginning of the summer of 1943, the enemy tried to restore the Dniapro-Bug Canal and place it into service. For this purpose, a recovery team which was covered by 6 military motor boats of the river flotilla arrived as part of the battalion. Repair work was started.
Having learned about the enemy’s intentions, the command of the V. M. Molotov Partisan Brigade conducted an operation to demobilise Garadziec, Liahavichy, Owzichy, Pierarub, Sieliashchy, Staraja and Novaja Ragadashch waterworks by three detachments (about 400 people) on the night of June 19, 1943. In order to distract attention of the enemy, the J. V. Stalin and U. R. Niamytaw detachments started a battle in the area of Patapavichy village where the enemy’s main forces and military motor boats were located. The rest of the brigade forces attacked the above-mentioned objectives and destroyed them.
In the operation, the enemy lost 12 people killed and 36 wounded, the partisans lost 4 people wounded. The water level in the Dniapro-Bug Canal dropped to 30–60 cm, 120 km of the canal in the Pinsk — Kobryn section became unusable. 129 enemy vessels that had been redeployed from the Dniapro remained in the Pinsk hithe and were captured by the Dniapro Military Flotilla in July 1944.
