Biaˈłystok ˈMilitary Forˈmations and ˈUnits

For the liberation of Białystok city (July 27, 1944) in the course of the Białystok offensive of 1944 during the Great Patriotic War, the Białystok honorary title was awarded to 24 formations and units of the 3rd and 4th Air armies of the 2nd Belarusian Front by the Order of the Supreme High Command dated August 9, 1944.

Units and formations that were awarded the Białystok honorary title were the 343rd Rifle Division (major general A. I. Jakimovich); the 4th Guards Mortar Brigade (colonel N. N. Korytko); the 334th (lieutenant colonel I. I. Savelev), 336th (colonel I. S. Beliaev), and 339th (colonel S. N. Dziamiennikaw) Guards Rifle regiments; the 336th (Lt.Col. A. F. Kuzovkin), 457th (Lt.Col. I. V. Frolov), 556th (Lt.Col. P. V. Kachur), 858th (major I. V. Zhyzhka), 1018th (colonel V. M. Bichan), 1078th (lieutenant colonel N. A. Gimmelfarb), and 1170th (colonel S. M. Chernavtsev) Rifle regiments; the 40th Engineer Tank Regiment (colonel N. V. Matochkin); the 510th Independent Flame Throwing Tank Regiment (lieutenant colonel G. V. Sitkov); the 1812th (major G. A. Plaksin), and 1901st (lieutenant colonel T. F. Zirka) Self-Propelled Artillery regiments; the 56th Howitzer (Lt.Col. U. M. Vajtsakhowski), 310th Guards (Lt.Col. A. A. Kagramanian), 593rd Army Anti-Tank Fighter (Lt.Col. P. A. Anishkin), and 1284th Army Anti-Aircraft (Lt.Col. A. M. Moskaliov) Artillery regiments; the 540th Army Mortar Regiment (major M. M. Ramanaw); the 16th Night Bomber (major V. I. Zhigarkov), 172nd Fighter (Lt.Col. M. I. Alaban), and 312nd Assault (major V. M. Rubtsov) Aviation regiments.

By the Order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief dd. July 27, 1944, a commendation was given to the troops which participated in the battles for the liberation of Białystok, and Moscow witnessed 224 guns saluting with 20 artillery salvoes.
