ˈLiuban ˈBattle of 1941
Battle of the partisans of Liuban Rajon against German Nazi invaders in Liuban urban settlement on November 7, 1941. On the eve of the 24th anniversary of the October Revolution, the Minsk Underground Voblasc Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus developed a plan to defeat the Nazi garrison in Liuban. Reconnaissance data on the number and armament of the garrison and the location of its main forces were taken into account.
Five partisan groups under A. I. Dalidovich, M. M. Rozov, A. I. Patrin, A. I. Milevich, G. N. Stoliarov, 2 assault groups, a grenade launchers group and 2 covering groups, which were supposed to stem additional enemy forces moving from Sluck town and Urechcha urban settlement, participated in the operation. On the eve of the operation, they managed to neutralise the Liuban police. Having silently removed the sentries on the bridge across the Aresa River, the partisans suddenly broke into Liuban and attacked the building where more than 40 Hitlerites were located. The battle lasted for about two hours.
Partisans completely defeated the garrison, killed about 40 Nazis, seized a lot of arms, ammunition, products, and clothes. Partisan machine gunner A. Bialiawski died in the battle.
In 1972, a memorial plaque was installed in Liuban in memory of the battle.
