Battle of partisans of the “Komsomol” Detachment of the 1st Minsk Partisan Brigade against German Nazi invaders in the village of Liady, Smaliavichy Rajon, on February 28, 1943, during the Great Patriotic War.
The operation to defeat the garrison in Liady was prepared by commander of the “Komsomol” Partisan Detachment P. S. Vorobev. Partisan reconnaissance men captured the guards chief of the Liady garrison who agreed to lead the partisans behind the defensive line.
On the night of February 28, 1943, a group of reconnaissance men of the detachment under A. G. Shatskov neutralised the sentries and besieged the guardroom. The second group of partisans, led by the detachment commander P. S. Vorobev and commissar P. A. Morozov, silently slipped to the military barracks of the Hitlerites and commandeered all the arms (8 light machine guns, 19 rifles, a large amount of ammunition). After 30 minutes, the enemy’s resistance was suppressed. 8 Hitlerites were killed in the battle, 17 were captured with 2 partisans wounded.
