Kaˈrelichy
Urban settlement, centre of Karelichy Rajon, Grodna Voblasc, on the Ruta River. 200 km southeast of Grodna, 125 km from Minsk, 42 km to the Garadzieja railway station (on the Minsk — Baranavichy line); on the Navagrudak — Niasvizh highway.
Until 1958, village.
Karelichy was invaded on June 26, 1941. 1,082 civilians died at the hands of German Nazi invaders in the rajon and rajon centre. In the summer of 1941, in Karelichy, the Hitlerites formed a ghetto where 989 people were kept. In July 1941, 105 Jews from Karelichy were executed on the way to Navagrudak. About 700 prisoners were taken to the ghetto in Navagrudak and perished there at the end of 1942.
In the territory of the rajon, the Karelichy Underground Rajon Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus and Karelichy Underground Rajon Committee of the Leninist Young Communist League of Belarus; the “Kamsamoliets” (Komsomol member) Partisan Brigade, “25 Gadow BSSR” (25 years of the BSSR) Partisan Brigade, 1st Baranavichy Partisan Brigade, 1st Belarusian Cavalry Partisan Brigade; the “Gromova” (named after I. V. Gromov) Partisan Detachment and Partisan Detachment under D. I. Siemiantsow operated; the Chyrvony Partyzan («Чырвоны партызан»; lit. ‘the Red Army’s partisan’) underground newspaper, i.e. the body of the underground Karelichy Rajon Committee of the Communist Party (Bosheviks) of Belarus, was published.
Karelichy was liberated on July 8, 1944, by the soldiers of the 283rd Rifle Division (colonel V. A. Kanavalov) in cooperation with the 269th Rifle Division (major general A. V. Kubasov) of the 41st Rifle Corps of the 3rd Army of the 2nd Belarusian Front during the Białystok offensive of 1944. The soldiers of the 120th Guards Rifle Division whose commander, major general Ja. I. Fogiel, was mortally wounded near the village of Maliushychy, Karelichy Rajon.

the Zorka memorial complex to immortalise the memory of 227 Soviet soldiers and partisans who died during the liberation of Karelichy Rajon from German Nazi invaders as well as 1,864 compatriots who gave their lives for the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.
