ˈLienin ˈBattle of 1942
Battle of the “Kamarow” (see in the article the S. M. Budennyj Partisan Brigade), “Piatrovich” (see in the article the S. M. Kirov Partisan Brigade), and M. Ts. Shysh (see in the article the V. M. Molotov Partisan Brigade) Partisan detachments against German Nazi invaders in Lienin urban settlement, Pinsk Voblasc, on September 12, 1942, during the Great Patriotic War.
The plan of the operation to defeat the garrison in Lienin (about 60 Nazis) was elaborated by deputy commander of the M. Ts. Shysh Partisan Detachment P. P. Patalakh who controlled the battle. 5 assault groups (150 partisans) were formed, 3 of whom were located on the paths of the enemy’s possible retreat, with the rest, in ambushes on the roads to Mikashevichy workers’ settlement and Sinkievichy village to prevent the enemy reinforcements approaching.
On the morning of September 12, 1942, partisans suddenly attacked the garrison. The enemy could not resist; 20 Hitlerites were killed and wounded, the rest fled. The partisans freed more than 50 Soviet patriots from prison, seized trophies (arms and food) and left in an organised manner. One partisan died in the battle, 2 partisans were wounded.
In 1960, a monument was raised in honour of the battle operations of the partisans in Lienin (now, an agricultural town in Zhytkavichy Rajon, Gomiel Voblasc).
